Luckily, one thrifty beauty buff has taken to TikTok to spill the beans on how she transformed her tresses from a dry and lifeless mess – to enviable hair full of shine.

According to mum-of-one Emma Carlee, the answer is simple – hair oiling.

A trend that’s become a major hit on social media, hair oiling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that is believed to increase moisture, luster, and shine, potentially softening hair and providing vitamins and minerals.

Ayurvedic hair oiling involves massaging warm, herbal-infused oils into the scalp and hair.

The holistic way of nurturing your scalp and mane is also thought to target the root of many common hair issues, such as thinning and breakage from regular heat styling and harsh bleaching.

The frequency of hair oiling largely depends on your hair type, scalp condition, and personal preferences.

For those with extremely dry or damaged hair, experts advise to oil two to three times a week, to help restore moisturise and improve hair texture.

However, if you have an oily scalp, you might be better off limiting hair oiling to once or twice a month – as over-oiling can exacerbate the oiliness and lead to a greasy appearance.

According to the blonde beauty, who only applied her special four-ingredient treatment once a week, hair oiling has truly transformed her locks.

She recently shared the jaw-dropping results on her TikTok page, saying: ”Let this be your sign to start hair oiling if you haven’t already.”

Before she discovered the purse-friendly treatment, Emma described her tresses as ”completely dead”, with ”uneven layers” and ”so dry”.

But just after two months of consistently applying the oil mix onto her hair, the mum couldn’t be happier with the results.

”It’s so much more full, so shiny. I’ve honestly never stayed consistent in anything – and because I’ve stayed consistent in this, my hair is so much better off for it.”

Hair re-growth FAQs

Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.

How long does it take for hair to grow back?

Hair grows, on average, half an inch a month. You cannot speed this up.

Do rosemary oil and scalp massages work?

Oils do not promote hair growth. In terms of rosemary oil, the current trend stems from one small study carried out on 50 men in 2015. No women were involved, and the study compared the effects of 2 per cent minoxidil to Rosemary oil. 2 per cent minoxidil doesn’t do much for
male pattern hair loss anyway, so the results were not very impressive.  Oils do serve a purpose in conditioning hair treatments though. They help add shine and smooth the hair cuticle to lock-in moisture and improve combability.  Scalp massages alone won’t cure hair loss, but it can help relax you, aid in lymphatic drainage, exfoliate and help topicals penetrate.

Are there any products or foods/vitamins you recommend someone using or eating to help with hair regrowth?

To support healthy hair regrowth, if you are experiencing hair thinning we’d recommend our Density Preserving Scalp Drops clinically proven to help slow hair loss with continued daily use within three months.

Telogen effluvium (hair shedding) due to nutritional deficiencies can often be simply treated with changes to your diet, and nutritional supplements such as our specially formulated Density Healthy Hair Complex and Density Amino Acid Booster.

Iron and Ferritin (stored iron) in red meat, dried apricots and dark, leafy greens. Vitamin B12 in animal products and fortified plant-based foods. Protein from oily fish, lean meat, cottage cheese, tofu, nuts, chickpeas, and beans.

However, there may be an underlying cause for their hair loss and rather than this being masked by using an off-the-shelf product, they should be encouraged to seek the advice of a specialist such as a Trichologist.

Simple recipe – that won’t break the bank

After taking the internet by storm with the epic hair transformation, Emma (@emma_carlee) also listed the ingredients she uses for the at-home DIY treatment.

The easy-peasy recipe calls for jojoba oil, rosemary oil, pumpkin seed oil mixed with equal amounts of coconut oil.

Once done, Emma will apply the solution onto her hair and let it work its magic for two to six hours, before jumping into the shower.

It’s worth nothing that after using oil on your tresses, you may wish to shampoo it twice to avoid a greasy mess afterwards.

‘I’m doing this ASAP’

With thousands looking to improve the health of their mane, the clip has racked up close to 300k views in just two days.

Close to 90 people flooded to comments to thank Emma for the step-by-step tutorial, with one writing: ”Ok, I’m doing this ASAP.”

Another chimed in: ”Yes!!! hair oil will change your life!! the oil you use matters!!! blonds use clear oil, all others can use yellow, like Moroccan.”

A third wrote: ”I use L’Oréal extraordinary oil and it does the same thing, a few drops does all for my short hair, game changer.”
