While most people use brushes or rollers to paint a fence, one man took to TikTok to share how using a sponge is a much better method.
Known as @reno_at_95 on the social media platform, the man posted a video of him painting the garden fence with a sponge.
The user showed viewers how easy it was to use a sponge which resulted in a much faster technique and outcome.
A normal sponge will do the trick but make sure it is fairly large in size to get enough coverage.
Not only is this method cheaper and quicker, but it also stops any paint bristles from getting stuck on the fence.
Although many people may begin to dab the sponge on the fence, the video showed the user wiping the fence paint on, using a little at a time.
The TikToker captioned the video “Fence painters out there – use a sponge not a brush! You can thank me later”.
The video received more than 300,000 likes as well as lots of comments from users who were pleasantly surprised by this hack.

@sophiee276 commented: “This is incredible. I’ve just tested it out and it takes seconds to paint the fence now.”
Sponges can be picked up for as little as £2 for a pack of five, costing just 40p each.
Another quick and easy way to paint a fence sprayer, which according to B&Q, will help DIYers get the job done quickly.
They said: “If you’re using a paint sprayer, check the paint is compatible.
“Ensure you wear a dust mask and goggles, and make sure you’ve covered the areas surrounding the fence properly, as there will be a little bit of overspray.
“Some fence paint will only require one coat, however, some fence paint will require two to three coats.
“Make sure you check the tin to see the recommended number of coats and to see how long it will take for the paint to dry.”
