House that's perfect for one goes on sale for £70k – but there’s a catch

In today’s economy, the prospect of buying a home is far-reaching dream for many young professionals, couples, and families.

So when you find a property that’s cheaper than most it’s a good idea to move quick if you want to get your hands on it.

The estimated average house price in the UK was £282,000 in January of this year, according to statistics. So this viral £70,000 property in Clouds Hills Road, Bristol seems like a steal – but it comes with a catch.

House prices in Clouds Hill Road have an overall average of £221,500 over the last year. The majority of properties sold in Clouds Hill Road during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £189,833, while terraced properties sold for an average of £316,500, reports Rightmove.

The property which has people talking on social media, is a one bedroom apartment. It looks like a standard British home from the outside, but as you walk in you will be straight into the combined kitchen, bedroom and living area.

Singer and rapper, known as Bushrod, shared his opinion on the space on his TikTok page @housinghorrors where he shared “horrific” housing stories. Speaking about the Bristol £70K aparment he said: “There is so much to unravel here people.

“It’s literally like one corridor. There’s a little kitchenette at the bac but there’s no cooker or hob. There’s no microwave. There is absolutely nowhere to cook anything.”

He also observed the lack of radiators inside the property. There is just a small plug-in heater, two sets of plugs, and one window.

Speaking about the bathroom offerings, Bushrod added: “Bathroom isn’t actually a bad size for one person, but that’s pretty horrendous.” There is a sink and small unit, toilet, and shower with shower curtain in the bahtroom.

Bushrod concluded: “I’m sorry but who is paying £70,000 to live in a cardboard box?” “Where are you supposed to put your stuff?,” he added.

He concluded: “70,000 British pounds to live in a corridor, no thank you. The sad thing is that someone would actually snap this up and then they’ll be charging extortionate prices for rent.”

People rushed to comment as one said: “I wouldn’t pay £7K let alone £70K.” “I paid less than this for a three bed house,” wrote another. “70k taking the piss, that’s worth 30k at tops,” said one other.

Another pointed out: “That’s what my flat looks like for £800 a month in London.” One other noted: “In Bristol people rent that out for £1000. St George isn’t great but people pay it.”

“Why does it look like decent uni accomodation?,” said another. One other dubbed it as “the perfect flat”. “But Tesco’s is right opposite, that’s a good selling point,” noted another.

The property, which was listed on Rightmove, appears to have been taken down. If you are looking for a cheap property in this area there are more options under £100K listed on Rightmove.
