A one-year-old baby was reportedly slapped in the face by a man on the streets of Barcelona.
The shocking footage circulated on X showed the man screaming at the baby’s parents. As the baby waddled in front of her pushchair, the man appeared to approach her and slap her.
In the video, the sound of the hit can be heard as the baby’s father quickly picks up the child to protect her.
The baby begins to cry and the shocked parents move away from the man as quickly as possible.
This was not the only attack committed by the 31-year-old perpetrator who allegedly assaulted two other people over the weekend before he was arrested by police on Sunday, local media claims.
Another of his alleged victims is a 60-year-old man who suffered horrific cuts to his face and bruises all over his body.
The attacker was able to be identified through video footage and eyewitness descriptions and is now due to appear in court on Tuesday.
According to police, the little girl suffered minor injuries and didn’t require hospital treatment.
The incident took place on a walkway at Montjuic hill in Barcelona which is a popular tourist destination.
This comes after anti-tourist fury has taken over Spain in recent months – locals have had enough and demonstrations took place to draw attention to the issue.
In July around 2,800 protesters took to Barcelona’s streets to protest.
A motive for the moment is Barcelona’s current housing crisis that has reportedly seen home costs rise by 68 per cent in the last decade.
Some locals blame the rising prices on tourists, sparking outrage and therefore encouraging protests. But many still feel that locals are not prioritised in the city, with not enough being done to balance tourism with residents.
