Honda drivers warned over ‘light issue’ that causes crashes – 152k cars set to be recalled starting May 27

HONDA has been forced to recall over 152,000 vehicles due to a worrying defect that could cause a light failure.

The Japanese giants reportedly issued the recall last month – claiming it specifically targets the exterior and interior lighting components of one of their most popular luxury models.

The top-selling Acura MDX, specifically those built from 2014 to 2020, are urgently being recalled due to a defect that could cause light failure – which, according to Top Class Lawsuits, reduces visibility and increases the risk of accidents.

Details around the recall say that moisture can enter the tailgate lid light assembly and wiring harness – which leads to failures in the lid lights, position lights, license plate lights and taillights.

The recall notice states: “Vehicle lights that fail to illuminate can decrease visibility and increase the risk of a crash.”

Owners of the affected vehicles are due to receive notification letters sometime after May 27 that inform them of the necessary repairs.

The notice explains that dealers will inspect the wiring and install a fuse harness, and also replace the lid light and repair the body dust sealer – all at no cost to the owners.

The recall also stated: “Dealers will inspect the wiring and install a fuse harness, replace the lid light and repair a seal if necessary.”

It’s also a case that vehicles that were repaired under a previous recall, titled 19V-256, will need new repairs as well, with Honda looking to take proactive steps to ensure customer safety.

No injuries or accidents have been reported in connection with this recall so far, and Honda is not currently facing any legal action over this issue.

This comes as, in January, Honda issued a recall for more than 290,000 Acura MDX Type-S, Honda Pilot and Acura TLX Type-S vehicles for a software error.

What’s more, last year, Acura agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims its hands-free system is defective.

Elsewhere, drivers who leased cars from Nissan dealerships could be getting a check from a $3.2 million settlement.

The huge sum is being paid out after dealerships allegedly cheated customers out of their hard-earned cash.

The settlement stems from an investigation into eight Nissan dealerships in the New York City area.

New York Attorney General Letitia began investigating after customers complained they were overcharged and given inaccurate receipts after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The victims were customers who bought a leased vehicle after their lease contract ended, which is known as an end-of-lease buyout.

They were supposed to be allowed to buy the car for a set amount at the end of the lease term, per their contract.
