Heartless thief robs 7-year-old boy, attacks mom, at Bronx fruit store: police

A heartless woman with magenta hair is being sought for robbing a 7-year-old boy of $3 at a Bronx fruit store, then slugging the child’s mother when she tried to intervene, police said Friday.

The child was at the register about to buy some fruit at Richard’s Fruit and Vegetable store on Jerome Ave. near Marcy Place in Mount Eden at about 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 24 when a woman in a black and gray tracksuit snatched the cash out of the boy’s hand.

The child’s 38-year-old mother tried to stop the crook from leaving the store and was punched in the face for her trouble, police said.

The thief didn’t say a word as she stormed out of the store $3 richer. She was last seen walking down E. 170th St., cops said.

The mom suffered a minor injury during the robbery and was treated at the scene.

Cops scouring the area recovered surveillance footage of the woman and began circulating her image in the hopes someone recognizes her.

No arrests have been made.

In June police arrested Demba Ba, who is accused of grabbing $8 from a 10-year-old boy and his 7-year-old sister while they were walking down the street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The case against Ba is still pending. A judge ordered him to participate in a problem solving alternative court program and is awaiting the results of his participation before adjudicating the case, according to court records.
