Harry Maguire to Man Utd transfer will trigger big Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision

The Leicester defender is wanted by the Red Devils as they look to overhaul their squad after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.

Manchester United have already made two bids for Maguire but the Foxes are holding out for £90million.

The England international impressed for Leicester last season and is wanted by Solskjaer.

Should United secure the signing of Maguire, it will trigger a decision by the Norwegian.

The Red Devils boss will get rid of one defender if the 26-year-old arrives but Solskjaer has yet to make a decision as to who.

United currently have Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe as centre-back options.

And The Times say Bailly and Rojo are the most likely to leave.

But Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has made it clear the club do not need to sell Maguire this summer.

He said: “They don’t meet the valuation. If City and Utd are interested, I respect that.

“We don’t have to sell Harry.

“Harry has been absolutely brilliant about this right from the word go. He’s a top, top player and a top guy. I thunk it’s important the supporters know that.

“I’ve been in this situation before with players and it’s not always easy but Harry has been absolutely superb. We’ve had a chat about it, obviously.

“He’s happy and I tip my hat to him for the way he’s dealt with all this because it can be unsettling.

“I’m relaxed about it all. We understand the situation from all points of view because United and City are big clubs, but unless they meet our valuation he won’t be sold and it’s as simple as that.”

United start the new Premier League campaign against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

That match takes place on Sunday, August 11 from 4.30pm.
