Amid accusations of overspending and wanting to “have her cake and eat it” in terms of privacy and attention, Meghan was defended on Twitter by a die-hard fan. The Tweet highlighted exactly what Meghan had achieved before marrying Prince Harry last year – and compared her achievements with Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge’s.
The list read:
“1.Graduated university with double major degree in international studies and theatre
“2.Interned at US Embassy in Buenos Aires
“3. Worked as Freelance Calligrapher
“4. Designed two collections for Canadian retailer Reitmans
Meghan was also criticised for having an opulent £300,000 baby shower in New York.
She came under fire after she flew on a private jet, stayed in a very expensive suit and had A-list stars attend her baby shower.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also reportedly spent £2.4 million of taxpayers’ cash refurbishing Frogmore Cottage.
Piers Morgan has even accused Meghan of being a modern-day Marie Antoinette who has said: “She can’t have her cake and eat it.”
The Queen of France, who was executed in 1793, was known for being very extravagant.
The spending could offend the Queen, who is known for heating her living room with an electric heater and even wearing the same shoes until they become worn out.
Speaking to The Conservative Woman, author Angela Levin, said that her expensive lifestyle has “not gone down well” with taxpayers.
She said: “I think Meghan on occasion has been extravagant, which has not gone down well.
“The Queen is known to be frugal and some members of the British public have balked at a proportion of their tax going towards what they consider to be frivolity.”
Meghan is also believed to have spent thousands of pounds last year on her wardrobe.
