Hamptons Happenings: Paul McCartney and Wyclef Jean make musical magic

Sir Paul rocks the house

Sir Paul McCartney walked in and onto the stage of the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett Aug. 21 during a set by Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and producer/singer Andrew Watt, along with G.E. Smith, and Beatlemania was happening all over again.

In addition to the Beatles classic tune “I Saw Her Standing There,” McCartney sang “Rockin in the Free World” a tune by Neil Young, as the packed crowd went wild.

At 82, the Beatles legend can still make ‘em twist and shout!

In other music news, Wyclef Jean brought down the house — entertainment lawyer David Hyrck’s house to be exact, as Hyrck and model Karolina Kurkova hosted a cocktail reception for the Maestro Cares Foundation on August 22nd.

Wyclef told the New York Daily News exclusively: “Music is the love of my life and when you get to share what you love with people — it’s like what my wife says,  she says ‘you don’t have a job, you wake up everyday and get to do what you love’  and she’s right.”

Wyclef opened his high-energy set with a duet of “Summertime” with Tony Bennett’s daughter, Antonia Bennett as an enthusiastic crowd which included Johanna Bennett (Tony’s other daughter), Kelly Bensimon, Fern Mallis and fashion designer Cameron Alastaire, who is debuting his line Untitled & Co at his first New York Fashion Week next month.

Going on its 9th year, the North Fork TV Festival hosted an annual Independent TV Pilot and Script Competition, as well as discussions with entertainment legends including — this year — Marcia Gay Harden, Kelsey Grammer, John Turturro and Bridget Moynahan. This year, Richard Schiff received the Ambassador for the Arts Award. The festival took place August 27 and 28 in Greenport, mostly at the Sound View Greenport Hotel and the American Beech Hotel.

Frame of Mind

“The creation of ‘Re-Framed: The Beauty of the Unexpected’ is directly tied to the larger project currently exhibited at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, which will move to locations globally in 2025,” the photographer told the New York Daily News exclusively.

Marc Hom’s latest book debuted August 16th at Genesis House in The Hamptons, an east end outpost of the Meatpacking District location. A Water Mill private residence was the setting for a chic group celebrating the book launch, including Marc Hom, Emma Roberts, Elizabeth Saltzman, Timo Weiland, Alamo Records’ Todd Moscowitz and photographers Inez and Vinoodh. Guests dined on Genesis House cuisine and took home copies of the tome.

“Through this book, I aimed to capture not just the faces of these icons, but the deeper stories and emotions that define their lasting impact on our culture,” Hom told the News. Some of his subjects in the book include Samuel L. Jackson, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus.

Ambassador Mack

Despite the rain, a veritable who’s who of Southampton’s elite turned out for former Ambassador Earle Mack, whose Ukrainian humanitarian efforts became the subject of a short film, “Once Upon a Time in Ukraine.” The 40-minute film showed the fortitude and resilience of Ukrainian children amidst the conflict and was screened at the Southampton Arts Center on August 18th.

Afterwards, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Judith Miller and David Rubenstein, Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations held a discussion after which the guests moved to Le Charlot for a seated dinner. Guests included John Bolton (Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations,) Jo Carole Lauder, Southampton Village Mayor William Manger, Jane Holzer, Ambassador Woody Johnson, Gigi Mortimer, Governor George E. Pataki, John Paulson, Bronson Van Wyck and Peggy Siegal.
