A 41-year-old man was robbed of a bag filled with $250,000 outside a LaGuardia Airport hotel during a high-stakes mugging Thursday — money investigators believe was earmarked for a poker tournament the victim was headed to later that evening, police sources said Friday.
The victim was outside LaGuardia Airport’s Marriott Hotel on Ditmars Blvd. about 6 p.m. Thursday when the gunman approached him, cops said.
The suspect flashed his weapon and swiped the victim’s bag, which was stuffed with cash, all in $100 bills.
Police believe the victim may have been targeted, a source with knowledge of the investigation said.
Detectives were also investigating a second theory that the victim was meeting up with the gunman to buy a Mercedes Benz, according to Citizen.
The gunman ran off with the loot and fled the scene in a silver Mercedes Benz . No arrests have been made.
