Graeme Souness breaks down in tears and reveals why he was target of a shooting

Graeme Souness broke down in tears as he revealed he was the target of a shooting in the 1980s during the latter part of his playing career. The 71-year-old played for a whole host of clubs throughout his career, including Liverpool and Rangers, before turning his hand at management.

Souness has established himself as a straight-talking pundit in recent decades and spent 15 years working for Sky Sports between 2008 and 2023.

But he was a fierce midfielder on the pitch and helped Liverpool win five top-flight titles and three European Cup trophies.

Souness features on the Everything I Know About Me podcast from the Daily Mail in a new five-part series as he opens up about his life and career.

“This is me and I don’t really care if you like me or don’t like me,” Souness explains in the preview. “I never started off in football and saw it as a popularity contest.”

And in another clip, he states: “I said, ‘Campbell, what was happening on Saturday, lots of strange faces in the directors box?’ He said, ‘We didn’t want to tell you but they’ve phoned in a message that they’re going to attempt to shoot you at the weekend.’”
