Eggs are one of those foods that can instantly transform any meal in a matter of seconds, from avocado toast to fried rice.
Fried eggs especially are an excellent addition to your breakfast, lunch or dinner, and they’re one of the easiest ways to prepare the staple food too.
But saying that, there’s still a bit of technique involved to achieve that perfect sunny-side-up yolk – just a minute of overcooking and it’ll become solid.
Thankfully, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has come to the rescue once again with his foolproof fried egg technique that all budding chefs should know.
His method promises the perfect eggs in just a few minutes, adding one additional ingredient to the pan when they’re almost finished cooking.
He detailed his perfect egg recipe in a TikTok video, saying it was the “best” way to enhance a meal. It’s beginner-friendly and ready in minutes.
To begin with, you’ll want to add a splash of olive oil to a pan and allow it to heat up a little before taking it off the heat and then cracking the eggs into it.
A flat surface is recommended for this step if you want those perfectly-shaped eggs.
Season with a touch of salt and pepper and turn the heat up slightly, allowing the eggs to cook “nice and slowly”.
As they cook, you can add any other seasonings you like – Gordon opted for chilli flakes and spring onion. And when they’ve been going for a couple of minutes and look almost ready, this is when you’ll add the secret ingredient – a few knobs of butter.
Place some slices around the edges of your eggs and wait for them to “froth up”, which Gordon says is key to making those yolks “beautifully cooked.”
He added, “Then, as that butter starts to froth, it cooks the top of the egg. It’s a really nice way of finishing it.”
At this point, you’ll also want to start swirling the eggs in the pan to make sure the melted butter is evenly spread over the yolks, but just for a few seconds. Then, it’s time to take them off the heat and allow them to rest for a couple of minutes.
This step will finish the cooking process since there’s still some heat left in the pan. Then, it’s simply a case of serving it alongside your favourite meals and tucking in.
