Giants sign veteran Greg Van Roten to strengthen offensive line, cut Aaron Robinson

The Giants are signing free agent right guard Greg Van Roten to boost their offensive line, coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday morning.

This is a necessary addition. Van Roten, 34, is coming off his best NFL season as the Raiders’ right guard under now-Giants OLine coach Carmen Bricillo and next to now-Giants RT Jermaine Eluemunor.

He arrives to protect Daniel Jones in a pivotal year. Van Roten is needed especially because the Giants already are down projected starting right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) and center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder). Eluemunor also bruised his ribs on the first day of camp, although he is practicing.

The Giants cut corner Aaron Robinson to make room on their roster.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
