Gemma Atkinson, who has two pet pooches: Norman and Ollie, expressed her fury after a man from Manchester was banned from keeping animals for three years after hitting his dog, Zeus.
Eden Chemo, 18, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal by subjecting the dog to unnecessary physical violence resulting in fear and distress.
As well as the three-year ban, Eden was also ordered to carry out a 12-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work and was ordered to pay £300 costs.
Gemma wrote on Instagram she believes a tougher sentence should have been given instead of the community order, fine and ban.
She furiously wrote: “The video doing the rounds of that man from Manchester beating his dog is horrendous.
“Apparently he’s been banned from having another. That’s it.”
Expressing what she believes would be a better punishment, Gemma added: “The little b*****d needs jail time.
“I hope he casually stumbles across a she load of Mancunian dog lovers.”
As well as sharing the post on Instagram, Gemma wrote the same message on her Twitter.
One person wasn’t happy with her way of words and responded: “Promoting more violence I see. When will you realise you are as bad as him.”
However, another defended Gemma and said: “As bad as?!!!! It needs promoting so people know it goes on and more needs to be done about them!!! Also hopefully the public can find him and serve justice.”
To which the person said: “No she’s doesn’t need to promote violence against them to say it happens. What kinda nonsense is that? As yes she’s as bad as because she wants it to happen.”
Gemma, who is just a “few weeks away” from giving birth, wasn’t having any of it and called the man who hit the dog “vile”.
The Strictly Come Dancing 2017 star wrote back: “Damn right I have! My best friend works with abused children and over 90 per cent of their abusers started with animals, didn’t get punished, then moved on to kids.
“THATS why scum like this need harsher punishment and not just a slap on the wrist. He’s vile.”
Meanwhile, Gemma is currently on maternity leave from The Hits Radio and dug out an old picture of her as a young child today.
The former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actress revealed her mum cut her hair when she was a toddler and joked she went through a stage of looking like a boy.
Addressing her unborn baby’s gender, she wrote beside the cute photo of herself: “Boy or girl it doesn’t matter, as looking back at old pictures of myself I realise I went through a stage of looking like both thanks to my incredible haircut.
“I used to stand on a stool, kitchen towel round my neck and let mum chop away.”
Gemma added alongside a laughing emoji: “Thanks Mum!”
