Gary Lineker drops huge Jurgen Klopp hint after emotional Liverpool departure

Gary Lineker has claimed he’s heard reports that Jurgen Klopp will return to Borussia Dortmund as club president. After eight-and-a-half-years in charge at Liverpool, the German boss stepped down following Sunday’s 2-0 win over Wolves, and has now vowed to take a sabbatical from football having admitted to feeling mentally fatigued.

He’s not confirmed if he will return to coaching again, and now Match of the Day presenter Lineker has dropped a major hint over the German’s next move. “I heard a little rumour that he might end up being president of Borussia Dortmund, which would be amazing,” he said on the The Rest Is Football Podcast.

Klopp previously spent seven years in charge at Dortmund after taking over in 2008. During his stint, he won two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup, and led them to the 2011 Champions League final.

Lineker, 63, has also predicted that if Klopp does decide to ultimately head back into management, he won’t be short of offers. “I will be interested to see what Jurgen Klopp does next,” he added. “I think he will definitely take some time out because I think he’s genuine when he says he has run out of energy.

‘You can see why that job is so demanding. There will be a battle for him in a year’s time. Or they’ll be lining up for a year or so’s time.”
