Gardening expert's genius trick for Monstera plants to produce leaves 'three times faster'

Monstera plants, often referred to as “cheese plants,” have become a favourite among plant enthusiasts for their striking, fenestrated leaves and easygoing nature.

Gardeners looking to boost the growth of their beloved Monstera plant might want to consider a simple potting trick that reportedly speeds up leaf production.

YouTuber Sheffield Made Plants recently shared a method that he claims can make Monsteras produce leaves “three times faster” by using a slightly undersized pot.

In a recent video, the gardening enthusiast explained: “Keeping a Monstera in a pot that is just a little too small can be the trick for getting it to push out new leaves much faster.”

He noted that the problem with Monsteras is their tendency to focus on root growth when given ample space, often at the expense of developing new foliage.

The YouTuber said: “The problem is that the plant focuses its energy on producing roots and forgets about the leaves.”

The gardener discovered this issue firsthand after repotting his Monstera into a container that was too large, leading to a noticeable stall in leaf growth.

However, he was quick to caution against keeping Monsteras in pots that are too small, which could cause the plant to become root-bound, leading to unhealthy growth and potentially slower leaf production.

He added: “Before the Monstera police come out to get me, I’m not saying we should all be keeping our Monstera in tiny pots where they come so root-bound.”

Instead, he suggests using a pot that is just slightly smaller than what the plant might ideally need.

This encourages the plant to balance its energy between root and leaf development, resulting in faster leaf production without compromising the plant’s overall health.
