WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones season eight, episode one.
Jon Snow’s (played by Kit Harington) world came crashing down when he discovered who his real mother and father were in episode one of Game of Thrones season eight.
Since birth, the King of the North has believed he was the bastard son of Ned Stark (Sean Bean) and assumed the woman who brought him into the world was nothing more than a commoner.
But Samwell Tarly revealed the truth, informing him of his ties to the Targaryen family and explaining he came to be following the union between Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
Unsurprisingly, the news did not sit well with Jon and he refused to accept he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.
Their conversation was intense, with Kit Harington later admitting Jon’s rage could spell trouble for his trusted friend.
Discussing the scene in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year-old actor divulged: “For that moment, Samwell is nothing to him.
“Jon would disown this friend and beat him up if he was trying to lie to him about this. He’s quite threatening.”
With Jon reeling from this revelation could Sawmell be at risk? Perhaps if not from him then Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)?
It is a widely known fact Daenerys wants to reclaim the Iron Throne for herself and has every intention of destroying those who get in her way.
However, the throne does not belong to her; Jon is destined to sit on the ceremonial chair, although at present he has no desire to.
Of the Iron Throne, Kit said: “He doesn’t f**king want it. He doesn’t want that f**king information. He doesn’t want to know.
“He has no ambition for the throne. He’s never wanted that. The end of the world might be coming soon but at least he’s in love with somebody and knows who he is, and then comes this sledgehammer.”
The former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch had accepted his low status in society when he believed he was the son of Ned.
Learning his late father was not only not his parent but a liar too will be an incredibly hard pill for him to swallow.
“He finds out such a massive piece of information,” Kit began. “Not only does he find out who his mother is but also that he’s related to the person he’s in love with.”
He continued: “It’s hard for any actor to play. It’s not a two-hour movie but eight seasons of playing a character who’s finding out.”
Fans of Game of Thrones learned Jon was related to the Mother of Dragons at the end of season seven when Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) went back in time.
Samwell initially found out about the relation by reading a book about the lost son of Rhaegar Targaryen and had his theory later confirmed by Bran.
Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
