Game of Thrones season eight finished last month on HBO. However, fans were left with a few questions from the last few episodes. One such query was over Arya’s role during the final battle of King’s Landing. Viewers were eager to know how she survived the brutal attack from Daenerys’ dragon, Drogon.
How did Arya survive Daenerys’ attack on King’s Landing?
Game of Thrones season eight, episode five, showed the final showdown between Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).
The episode called The Bells saw Daenerys enter King’s Landing on her dragon while her army led by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) headed in through the streets.
Viewers saw Daenerys win the battle decisively during the dramatic episode, which racked up many casualties.
It was also a turning point for her character as fans watched her ignore the bells of surrender from the residents of King’s Landing.
She then proceeded to rain down dragon fire and destroy the entire city, killing the Golden Company army as well as almost all of the residents.
However, despite being in the middle of the battle with many of those killed, the casualties did not include Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).
WHAT IS WEST OF WESTEROS ON GAME OF THRONES?
Viewers were left wondering how this was possible as they watched the young girl and woman she tried to save die.
This was especially baffling given that dragon fire seemed to be surrounding her in the episode.
One viewer on the message board Stack Exchange pointed out that this was possible because Arya managed to head into an alley off of the main street away from the fire.
User TheLethalCarrot said: “Arya dives down an alley off of the main street and so is out of the main brunt of the dragon fire.
“In fact, the dragon fire, in general, doesn’t seem to do too much damage to stuff off of the direct course of it. On top of that, she then shelters behind a large rock.”
WHY WAS JON SNOW’S TRUE IDENTITY NOT REVEALED IN GOT FINALE?
They added: “Arya turns a corner and so shelters against the wall and the flames would not get close to the near side wall and instead close in at an angle.”
However, in response, a user named Zibadawa Timmy said: “Of course, this only works with Hollywood Fire. Real fire would still burn you via proximity, no contact necessary.”
At the end of the episode, viewers saw Arya covered in ash but safe as she rode away on a white horse.
Fans were also left confused at the purpose of the white horse in the plot as it seems to appear from nowhere.
WILL THERE BE AN ARYA STARK SPIN-OFF SERIES?
Season eight was the final outing of the HBO series which began back in 2011.
However, for some viewers, it was not a satisfying conclusion as it left them with a number of unanswered questions.
Some of these include the answer to where Bran went during the battle of Winterfell and what is the purpose of the Night’s Watch now the White Walkers have been defeated.
