A customer wrote: “Shrinkflation has got so bad the chocolate can stay on the shelf from this day onwards.”

We told this month how Cadbury Twirl packs had been cut from ten fingers to nine for the same price.

NetVoucherCodes’ Ellie Macsymons said: “Customers will react negatively to similar prices for 22 per cent less chocolate.

“Some will switch to alternatives. There may also be ‘reluctant acceptance’ from Dairy Milk fans.

“But if this continues there may be further fallout for the brand.”

Cadbury owner Mondelez blamed increases in cocoa and dairy prices plus rising transport and energy costs.

It said yesterday: “While we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges.”
