It is still difficult to accept there will be no new recordings from Freddie Mercury. However, there is still the Holy Grail for Queen fans – lost or archived material. Some have never been released to the public. There was huge excitement recently when a stunning new version of a lesser-known track was unveiled, stripped back to just Freddie’s spine-tingling vocal and a piano.

The track is not a Queen song but a cut from the 1986 rock musical, Time.

Written by Freddie’s friend, Dave Clark, the Queen frontman covered two numbers for an all-star concept album, including Time Waits For No One. Clark has uncovered the original recordings. It has taken two years to painstakingly remaster them without all the subsequent synthesiser and instrumental tracks.

Fan excitement was inevitable and the new video of the recording has already racked up almost 12 million views.

Now fans have one more treat to look forward to.

Time Waits For No One will be available on two formats – a stunning new picture disc 7” which perfectly replicates the track artwork and a CD single with heavyweight packaging, similarly decorated but with Freddie Mercury, Dave Clark and John Christie pictured together in 1986 on the other side.

As well as the stunning vocal performance, the tracklisting also includes Freddie Mercury and Dave Clark in Conversation, recorded during their collaboration on the album.

Clark said of their sessions together: “We got on great…if I didn’t like something I’d say, and vice versa…we were both aiming for the same thing: to make something special.”

The original recording was done with pianist Mike Moran. Clark brought him back in to record a new piano track to accompany Freddie’s voice, freed of all the previous embellishments.

The new video is similarly taken from the original footage shot with Freddie performing the song at the Dominion Theatre.
