Fox NFL Sunday star leaves colleagues heartbroken after ‘serious talks’ over shock switch to ESPN

A FOX NFL Sunday and NFL Network star has left his colleagues heartbroken.

The football reporter is in “serious talks” over joining ESPN.

And that would mean he would quit both current jobs to take up the new role.

Peter Schrager is a regular presenter of Good Morning Football on NFL Network weekday mornings.

He also works on Fox NFL Kickoff from 11 am ET on Sundays during the season.

Schrager joins Charissa Thompson and Julian Edelman on the show to lead into Fox NFL Sunday from midday.

News of his talks with ESPN broke last week.

And it has rocked his team at GMFB, where he has been ever-present since the show began airing in 2016.

Co-presenter Kyle Brandt posted a cryptic message over the weekend.

“Tomorrow, on a very special episode of Good Morning Football,” Brandt said along with a photo of Schrager.

And host Jamie Erdahl shared Brandt’s post along with a broken heart emoji.

On Friday morning, Front Office Sports reported that NFL insider Peter Schrager is in “serious talks” to join ESPN.

The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand confirmed that Schrager is all but ready to leave his current jobs at NFL Network and Fox, as ESPN is the “leading candidate” to sign him.

The two outlets shared that a deal between Schrager and ESPN has yet to be finalized.

However, FOS and The Athletic confirmed that Schrager will contribute to ESPN’s NFL top programs and events if he takes the position.

Schrager’s work would include appearing on Get Up, NFL Live, First Take, and even the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft which is next month.

The 42-year-old has a wide-range of abilities, whether it’s reporting on NFL news, sharing enthusiastic opinions, and hosting.

His apparent departure from the league-owned network comes one year after it decided to move GMFB from New York to Los Angeles as part of a cost-cutting procedure.

Schrager currently splits his time on the show between New York and Los Angeles.

Fox NFL Kickoff on Sundays is also filmed from the West Coast.

But moving to ESPN would likely mean less travel between studios.

Their NFL coverage mostly originates from Bristol, Connecticut.
