Firefighters rescue 4 from Queens house fire, 3 seriously hurt

Firefighters pulled four people from a Queens house fire Sunday morning, three of them suffering from life-threatening smoke inhalation.

The blaze broke out in a two-story attached brick home on 37th Road at 68th St. in Woodside about 7:15 a.m., FDNY officials said.

About 60 firefighters needed an hour to combat the blaze, which was confined to the house’s first floor, said FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Michael Woods.

Three of the house’s occupants were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition.

“A difficult morning here in Queens,” Woods said. “We affected four rescues at this job. Three patients were brought out in very serious condition.”

Three of the house’s occupants were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition. A fourth suffered minor injuries, as did two firefighters, all of whom also went to Elmhurst Hospital, according to EMS Deputy Chief John Paul Dimen.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

A man who identified himself as the homeowner said he came to the scene after getting a call from someone next door.

“I don’t know what happened,” said the man, who only gave his first name, John. “I’m very worried about everything.”
