Federal agents searched the home of a former aide to Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday.
The feds gave no reason for the early morning raid on a $3.5 million home in Manhasset belonging to Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to the governor.
No authorities commented publicly on the raid beyond an FBI statement confirming “court-authorized law enforcement activity in Manhasset.” No arrests were made.
Sun worked in state government and politics for nearly 15 years, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was appointed as Hochul’s deputy chief of staff in September 2021 and left the job in November 2022.
She departed to work as a deputy commissioner in the New York Department of Labor but left that gig after just four months.
A source told The Associated Press that Sun was fired by the Department of Labor in March 2023 after evidence of misconduct was discovered. The report of misconduct and the evidence were passed on to law enforcement at the time, according to the source.
However, Sun continued to work in politics. She managed the unsuccessful campaign of Austin Cheng, a Democrat who ran to represent New York’s 3rd Congressional District after Republican George Santos was expelled from Congress.
Prior to working for Hochul, Sun was chief of staff to then-state assembly member Grace Meng from 2009 to 2012. Meng now represents New York’s 6th District in the U.S. House.
Following that stint, Sun worked for Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a variety of roles across state government.
Sun and her husband, Chris Hu, purchased the Manhasset home in 2021. Earlier this year, they transferred official ownership of the property into a trust.
