Fantasy Billboard: Giddy Up! And Whoa Down! for NFL’s Week 7

We flew to St. Louis to attend the funeral of my wife’s Uncle Jimmy last week. A real sweetheart of a guy taken from us way too soon, Jimmy loved all things St. Louis Cardinals (baseball) and Ohio State football. Visiting his home after the service, I was overwhelmed by Jimmy’s vast display of vintage baseball cards, including MLB Hall of Famers Bob Feller, Lou Brock and Bob Gibson. I smiled and thought to myself; Jimmy kept himself in good company, because if there’s a Hall of Fame for good men in heaven, he’s a first-ballot member. Rest easy Uncle Jimmy. We’ll see you on the other side.

GIDDY UP!

QB Jordan Love (vs. Texans) — Houston just surrendered three TDs and 243 yards in the rookie debut of the Pats’ QB Drake Maye. Can Jordan top those numbers? Love will find a way.

QB Andy Dalton (at Commanders) — If you need a fill-in for the bye week, you could do worse than Dalton. He’s had 22 or more points in three of four outings and gets the Commanders’ 24th ranked pass defense.

RB J.K. Dobbins (at Cardinals) — Dobbins has had three great outings and two flops. But four RBs had 15 or more points on the year against the Cards. Dobbins adds to that list.

RB Kyren Williams (vs. Raiders) — Williams could lead all RBs in Fantasy scoring this week against the Raiders. Three RBs had over 100 yards rushing in the first six games against the silver and black.

WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (at Vikings) — To ancient Egyptians, their sun god Ra was a powerful deity. To modern Detroiters, their sun god, Amon-Ra, is just as powerful. He scorched the Vikings for over 60 Fantasy points in their last two outings.

WR Chris Godwin (vs. Ravens) — Curl up by the fire with a good book this Monday night or watch Fantasy’s No. 1 WR Godwin race through the Ravens’ suspect secondary. Either option makes for a comfy evening.

TE Brock Bowers (at Rams) — Enjoy Bowers’ production the next two weeks against the worst NFL defenses against tight ends: the Rams (31) and the Chiefs (32).

WHOA DOWN!

QB Brock Purdy (vs. Chiefs) — The Chiefs have only given up seven TD passes on the season and have faced solid QBs in Jackson, Burrow and Cousins. Start Purdy but keep your expectations at a reasonable 20 points.

QB Deshaun Watson (vs. Bengals) — You don’t have to be crazy to start Watson, but it helps. If the Browns come to their senses and bench the atrocious Watson, run to the waiver wire and add QB Jameis Winston.

RB Zack Moss (at Browns) — Moss is what we thought he was; a plodder who would eventually lose his role to backup Chase Brown.

RB Nick Chubb (vs. Bengals) — You’ll be tempted to start Chubb if he’s activated for the game. I get it. You’ve waited for so long. But the wise decision is to “wait and see.” There’s no way Chubb gets more than 15 touches in his first game back.

WR Jaylen Waddle (at Colts) — Until QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) suits up, keep Waddle firmly planted on your bench. He’s had less than nine points in each of his last four games without Tua.

WR Michael Pittman (vs. Dolphins) — After reports of going on the IR with a back injury, Pittman surprised us by suiting up last week. But in five of his last six games, he’s had 37 yards receiving or less. It doesn’t help that inaccurate QB Anthony Richardson should be back.

TE T.J. Hockenson (vs. Lions) — As with Nick Chubb, even if Hockenson is activated for Sunday’s game, I’d rather wait for next Thursday night in Los Angeles to get him in my lineup.

Thursday Night Special: If you decide to go to a corn maze instead of watching this yawner, I won’t blame you. The battle between two rookie QBs (Rattler and Nix) combined with a low over/under (37) guarantees a snoozefest. The Saints have too many injuries to overcome and have lost five straight TNF home games. Denver head coach Sean Payton gets the revenge win against his old team. Denver 21,  New Orleans 17
