Carmie Sellitto, 26, shocked his social media audience after buying the Japan Typica Natural coffee in London for $343, per the New York Post.
The drink is made from Typica beans, a Japanese variety of Arabica beans, and is thought to be one of Britain’s most expensive coffees.
He bought the pricey brew from SHOT London in Mayfair, one of the city’s most expensive areas.
But just as he took a sip of his drink, he realized that it had all been for nothing, and he felt he hadn’t gotten what he paid for.
Carmie revealed that the drink “tasted like some sort of fruit” and “didn’t even taste like coffee.”
He told Fox News Digital: “As the ice started to melt, the drink got weaker and weaker, and by the end, it just didn’t taste as rich as when I first started drinking it.
“That kind of took away from the experience a bit.
“I honestly think I can make better coffee than that.
“I couldn’t tell if it was because it was really that good or just the fact that I had just spent £265 on it.”
The content creator went onto discuss how prevalent the price of the drink was in his mind as he sat down to try it.
He continued: “The waiter even made a joke, saying, ‘Make sure you don’t mix them up’ and started laughing.
“That really made me feel overwhelmed because I thought, ‘Imagine if I accidentally drank the wrong one.’”
In the end, Carmie could only rate the drink a five out of ten and told SWNS that he “wouldn’t buy it again.”
COFFEE COMPETITON
In another international coffee shakeup, a competitor from China is threatening to overtake Starbucks as the top coffee chain.
The US Sun reported recently that in 2023, Luckin Coffee surpassed Starbucks to become the largest coffee chain in China.
It now plans to enter the American market with a location in New York City.
The chain has coffee priced at around $2 to $3 per cup in the US.
What to do if you’re overcharged
If you are overcharged at a retailer, there are a few ways to get your money back.
If you noticed you were charged more than the advertised or posted price, report it to an employee or manager.
Make sure to keep your receipt to show the price difference.
As a shopper, you are entitled to the lowest advertised, posted or quoted price offered by the store.
If you are charged more than the advertised, posted or quoted a price, report it to the sales clerk right away. If the sales clerk can’t help, speak to the manager.
Stores must honor a posted price, even if the price has expired.
You are also able to dispute charges with your bank if you notice something suspicious on your statement.
According to Los Angeles County Consumer& Business Affairs
This significantly undercuts coffee giants like Starbucks, which normally charges New Yorkers $6 to $7 for a cup of joe.
Luckin has expanded rapidly, going from 10,000 stores just two years ago to 22,340 locations.
It now outnumbers Starbucks in China three to one.
Luckin CEO Jinyi Guo recently told investors that the company is adopting “flexible and tailored operational models to build our overseas experience.”
