Cops revealed the former Louisiana State University receiver died in a suspected suicide.
Lacy was involved in a car crash in December 2024 that left Herman Hall, 78, dead. A jury was set to start hearing evidence on Monday.
Cops accused the football star of reckless driving in the buildup to the accident.
Weeks on from the accident, Lacy posted on Facebook: “Trust the process.”
Lacy, from Thibodaux, shared an article from his defense attorney who claimed he was not at fault for the crash.
Lacy’s lawyer, Matthew Ory, claimed the football star was “crushed” under a process he described as “prejudiced,” as reported by The Houston Chronicle
He slammed the stance taken by cops, describing it as “overzealous.”
“Kyren was a young man with immense promise, and he was crushed under the weight of an irresponsible and prejudiced process,” Ory said.
Harris County cops revealed Lacy was arguing with a relative on Saturday night.
They claimed he whipped out a gun and fired it before driving off.
Cops then tried to stop Lacy and said he was chased for several miles.
Lacy crashed and police later discovered he had shot himself.
ROAD TRAGEDY
Lacy’s death comes months after being charged with negligent homicide.
Cops claimed Lacy was driving at high speeds and passed in a no-passing zone, as reported by the CBS affiliate WAFB-TV.
A driver then tried to swerve Lacy’s car before smashing head on into another car.
Hall, a former Marine, was rushed to the hospital but later died.
Cops claimed Lacy fled the scene without reporting it.
He turned himself into cops on January 12 before being released.
RISING STAR
Lacy was a rising football star and expected to be picked in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He played three seasons with LSU and scored nine touchdowns in his final season.
“LSU has truly made a big impact on my life on and off the field, these past three years,” he posted on Instagram in January.
“Playing in Death Valley, for the best fans in the country was an experience I will never forget.
“Not too many people get to fulfill a dream like this.”
Lacy thanked his coaches and trainers before rounding off the post: “With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft.”
Lacy’s dad, Kenny, posted on social media his life has been changed forever.
“Our lives have changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here,” he said.
“This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through. This will never get easier, but we’ll learn to live with it.”
Kenny warned that mental health is real and urged parents to talk with their children from a young age.
Before starring for LSU, Lacy also played football for Thibodaux High School and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Just a month before his death, Lacy was seen taking part in drills during the LSU Pro Day event at Baton Rouge.
