Hunter Schafer, one of the stars of the Emmy-winning Max series “Euphoria,” revealed Friday that her new passport lists her sex as male, even though the gender markers on all of her other IDs have been female since she was a teen.
The 26-year-old transgender actor, model and director took to social media to share her shock when she saw that her new passport had an “M” for male, as a result of an executive order signed by President Trump declaring that “sexes are not changeable, and they are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
Hunter Schafer reveals that her new passport now lists her sex as male instead of female, following Trump’s instatement:
“I’m not making this post to fear-monger, or to create drama, or receive consolation, I don’t need it. But I do think it’s worth posting to sort of note the… pic.twitter.com/C9DDJEtf4u

In a video posted on TikTok, Schafer explained that she applied for a new passport to replace one stolen in Spain last year.
She also said she marked herself as female, which so far “hasn’t really been a problem.”
“My gender markers were first changed in my teens, when I first got my driver’s license and then passports following all have been female since then,” she said.
Newly implemented State Department guidance, however, requires passports to be issued with the applicant’s sex assigned at birth and not their gender.
The New Jersey-born star said she was not sharing the video “to create drama or receive consolation.”
“I don’t give a f–k that they put “M” on my passport. It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness, however, it does make life a little harder,” she said.
“I’m pretty sure it’s gonna come along with having to out myself to border patrol agents […] much more often than I would like to or is really necessary,” she said, adding she was also thinking “about other trans women or other trans people who this might be happening to.”
