Twitter reaction

Slim: My prediction is England win with a narrow margin. England have been fantastic so far. Australia haven’t been the Wallabies we’re all used to but still a force to reckon with.

Adam: Can’t wait for this game!! So much more exciting than football. COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Billy: Been struggling to sleep since 4 o’clock. I’m like a kid at Christmas.

ITV…

07:30: And there was me expecting a full hour of build-up to today’s match only to tune in and find ITV showing an episode of Mr. Bean…

I wondered if anyone else was aggrieved by this and did a quick search on Twitter… A quite simply stunning amount of profanity at an animated cartoon all before 8am. Almost impressive. Almost.

Samurai warriors

07:25: Like the sound of this, Eddie.

Eddie Jones has warned Australia he has a squad of ‘samurai warriors’ ready to put their lives on the line for England.

“The great thing about the World Cup is that every game is a knock-out,” said England’s Aussie. “No-one has won a World Cup after losing a game and there’s a reason for that.

“It’s do-or-die time. You see those hills at the back of us? That’s where all the samurais lived. Every time the samurais fought, one lived and one died.

“It will be the same on Saturday; someone is going to live and someone is going to die. That’s what the game is about and that’s the excitement of the game. This weekend we have the best eight teams, all playing for their lives.”

A tad dramatic? Yes. BUT WHO CARES – IT’S A WORLD CUP QUARTER-FINAL!

A rivalry rekindled…

07:20: If, like me, you’re an absolute sucker for spine-tingling, dramatic montages – the video posted below is probably for you.

And yes, I’m putting it there to buy myself 60 seconds to dash to the kitchen to create a jug of coffee so large I may be awake until Christmas.

Morning…

07:15: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of England vs Australia.

I don’t think I’ve been this excited at 7am since… well I don’t think I’ve been conscious at this time for several years.

We have exactly one hour until all hell breaks loose and four years of graft are either rewarded or deemed an unmitigated failure.

Eddie Jones and Michael Cheika shared the same dressing room as players – now they go head-to-head in a Rugby World Cup quarter-final in Japan.

A first Rugby World Cup semi-final since 2007 is the prize for England if they can take the spring out of the Wallabies’ step here today. Standby…
