Dawn (played by Olivia Bromley) recently found herself embroiled in Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) revenge to bring down rapist Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie) on Emmerdale, but backed out the plan when she realised how much danger she was in.

The villager’s backstory has been explored in depth since arriving on the ITV soap over a year ago as Dawn has tried to get her life bak on track after working as a prostitute and suffering from a drug addiction.

It hasn’t been the easiest recovery for Dawn as her son Lucas is currently in foster care, as well as her former step-mother Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) being reunited with her father, Will Taylor (Dean Andrews).

Speaking about her character’s journey on ITV’s Lorraine this morning, actress Olivia revealed she didn’t actually watch her first episode as the troubled villager.

Sitting down with Christine Lampard, 40, Olivia said of Dawn: “She’s such a complicated character.

“She’s not always likeable. She’s flawed, she’s vulnerable and I’ve enjoyed developing the backstory of this character.”

Of her first time on the set, Olivia explained: “It was so daunting. It’s a bit of a baptism of fire but a very welcoming atmosphere.”

Recalling one particular moment, the soap star told Christine: “I think on my first day all I had to do was slam a door.

“I thought I can’t do that. I was so nervous,” the actress commented, going on to tell the host about the first time Dawn made an appearance on the ITV soap.

“It’s so awful watching yourself, I have to say. It is the worst.”

Olivia continued: “The first time we aired, I just thought, ‘I can’t do it.’ I had to stand outside the room.”

The soap star also teased what’s to come for Dawn in the coming months as Harriet and her bad boy father Will pursue a rekindled romance.

“This is the first time there has been a glimmer of hope there could be a family unit,” Olivia explained, before hinting a relationship could be on the horizon for Dawn in the not-so-distant future.

“Potentially, there could be romance for her but it’s a soap so it could be short lived.”

Viewers will have to wait and see what lies in store for Dawn but elsewhere in the village, Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) continues to wreck havoc despite being behind bars.

Earlier this year, Maya was exposed as a child groomer as she began an illicit relationship with her boyfriend David Metcalfe’s (Matthew Wolfenden) step-son and her pupil, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).

A few months ago, Maya was given a jail sentence for her crimes and although it seemed Jacob was moving on from his illicit lover’s manipulation, their relationship is brought back into the fold next week.

Jacob will discover his GCSE grades are not what he expected and David is left trying to cheer the youngster up.

However, David and Jacob’s mother Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) are horrified when the youngster reveals he is still planning to tun away with Maya.

Will Jacob follow through with his plans, or can David and Leyla work together to reverse Maya’s manipulation of their son?

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
