Emmerdale resident Ellis Chapman (played by Asan N’Jie) may disappear from scenes in the future following an incident involving the actor.
Asan’s career hangs in the balance following a brawl on Monday night at the TV Choice Awards which was being held at the Hilton Park Lane in Mayfair, and saw him throwing punches at Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas.
The altercation was caught on camera and Asan was heart shouting at Jamie: “Do you think you are a f****** big man? I’m going to f****** kill you. I’m going to f****** knife you.”
The pair were separated by a security guard and following this, soap fans flocked to social media demanding Asan to be removed from Emmerdale’s cast because of his behaviour.
One fan wrote: “#Emmerdale I hope you have immediately sacked Asan N’Jie!!! It is not ok to threaten to knife someone. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.”
A second added: “@AsanNjie Asan N’Jie threatened to kill a man with a knife while representing @emmerdale that’s absolutely disgusting this is seriously bad crime to threaten to kill you should be sacked.”
According to the most recent reports, Asan is “pleading” soap bosses for a second chance and spoke to senior executives over the phone on yesterday ahead of meeting them face to face in upcoming days.
An unnamed source told The Sun: “Asan is beside himself with worry. To quote him he’s in ‘absolute bits’. He knows his career in Emmerdale could be over.
“He’s someone at the centre of a knife crime storyline who has threatened to stab a fellow actor. It doesn’t get more serious than that.”
Apparently, Asan will “do anything to avoid the sack” which includes community service.
“He will get down on his hands and knees and plead for another chance,” the insider added.
Neither actor has commented since the incident took place and Express.co.uk has contacted an Emmerdale representative for comment.
But a spokesperson did tell The Mirror they would be talking to Asan in due course.
“We are extremely concerned to hear about an incident at last night’s TV Choice Awards involving one of Emmerdale’s cast,” they said.
“Obviously we will be investigating and talking to the actor concerned in due course.”
ITV have announced they will be investigation the alleged assault, as a spokeswoman for the broadcaster said: “We are extremely concerned to hear about an incident at [the] TV Choice Awards involving one of Emmerdale’s cast,” she said.
“Obviously, we will be investigating and talking to the actor concerned in due course.”
It comes after the soap previously axed Shila Iqbal, who briefly played Aiesha Richards earlier in the year following offensive social media posts.
With bosses being extremely strict regarding their cast members behaviour, it wouldn’t be surprising if Asan followed suit.
But how will his exit be played out on screen?
His character’s mother Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin) has been preparing to leave for Dubai, therefore Ellis could move out of the village with her.
Emmerdale airs weekday evenings at 7pm on ITV.
