A FORMER Emmerdale star, who’s husband also used to star in the soap, has landed a role in Coronation Street.

The Sun can reveal that actress Joanna Hudson-Fox is set to swap the Dales for Weatherfield.

Soap fans may recognise the second part of her surname, as her husband is actor Liam Fox, who is known for playing Dan Spencer on Emmerdale.

But it is Joanna’s turn to head back to soap land.

We can reveal that she has signed up to appear in a guest role for a forthcoming flashback episode on Coronation Street, which focuses on the life of DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).

Joanna will play the role of Amanda Green, the adopted mum of Kit and she will play a key role in the storyline.

The hour-long special will give viewers an insight on how Kit’s life was growing up on the wrong side of the law.

This isn’t Joanna’s first taste of fame as a soap star, as she played Emmerdale’s local doctor on and off from 2018 to 2024, alongside her husband Liam.

Joanna and Liam have been married since 2020.

They started dating following the breakdown of Liam’s marriage to Hollyoaks star Nicole Barber Lane in 2015.

Liam and Joanna had also previously dated while at university together in the late eighties.

SOAP STAR HUSBAND

Meanwhile, Joanna’s husband Liam shot to fame on Emmerdale in 2011 playing Dan, the estranged husband of Ali Spencer (Kelli Hollis).

He was initially contracted for eight episodes, but he was later promoted to the main cast.

Liam played Dan for 12 years before leaving the soap in an explosive storyline when saw his character jailed for eight years.

Speaking at the time of his exit in 2023, he told the Liverpool Echo: “It doesn’t matter what job you do, after a certain amount of time you just need a change of scene for a bit.”

Liam went onto reveal that he felt “lucky” to have been part of the show for so long.

He said: “I went in for eight episodes and I ended up doing 1,000. You learn your trade in a place like that.

“I’ve still got plenty of mates there and mates who aren’t on the show anymore, who I’m still pally with.”

HEALTH BATTLE

Earlier this year, Liam revealed he had been diagnosed with having basal cell carcinoma, which is a type of skin cancer that can occur anywhere in the body but mainly areas that are exposed to the sun.

He has since had an operation to remove it, and is now on the mend.

Explaining more to The Sun, the actor told us: “A carcinoma tends to just damage the surrounding area.

“It can invade and go into your bones and your skull and cause damage, but they seem quite happy that it’s all gone okay.

“I feel alright, and everything is healing nicely. I only went in for the day and had some local anaesthetic and they cut it out.

“They seem quite happy that it’s all gone okay. I’ve got to go back in six weeks for a routine check-up.

“It’s been frustrating but I am lucky. The one I’ve got is the most common skin cancer on the planet.

“I’ve always been pretty good at putting on suncream but maybe the damage was done when I was younger, we don’t know.”

Basal cell carcinoma explained

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer that affects the basal cells in the skin.

It’s the most common type of skin cancer in the UK.

Symptoms

A growth that changes color or texture.

A growth that hurts, itches, bleeds, crusts, or scabs for more than 4 weeks.

Causes

  • Excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun or sunbeds.
  • Burns, scars, or ulcers that damage the skin.
