Emanuel Macron has suffered a humiliating defeat in the European elections.
The President, who has been in France’s top post since 2017, has been forced to dissolve the National Assembly, calling a new legislative election after the crushing vote.
He has called for parliamentary elections to be held on June 30 and July 7.
Marine Le Pen has just welcomed President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to call a snap election.
“This historic vote shows that when people vote, people win,” she told a cheering crowd of supporters at a rally.
“We are ready to take over power if the French give us their trust in the upcoming national elections,” she added.
“We are ready to exercise power, to end mass migration, to prioritise purchasing power, ready to make France live again,” she said.
