Emma Raducanu’s team have confirmed that she is on track to represent Great Britain in next week’s Billie Jean King Cup finals. The 21-year-old has not played a competitive match since September, when she picked up yet another injury at the Korea Open.
Raducanu sprained ligaments in her left ankle while playing against Daria Kasatkina and was forced to retire from the match. She has not been seen on the court since then, but her team have suggested that she is closing in on a return to action.
The one-time US Open champion has been training at the National Tennis Centre this week and is expected to fly out to Malaga for the Billie Jean King Cup finals on Monday.
Her team have provided an optimistic update, saying: “Emma is training well and being with the team next week is her focus.”
Raducanu showed plenty of promise at the Korea Open before she was struck down with injury. She reached the quarter-finals after securing wins over Peyton Stearns and Yue Yuan, with her latest setback coming just as she was finding her groove.
Last month, Raducanu explained that she was targeting a return to the court at the Billie Jean King Cup finals after withdrawing from the Hong Kong Open.
“Whilst my foot is making good progress, I need a little more time before I am match fit,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“I hope to be able to come back and play this tournament in the future. In the meantime, I am doing what I can to be ready for BJKC.”
