Election 2019: ‘Classic BBC!’ Huw Edwards on battling broadcaster after demotion

According to Edwards he had been promised that 2015 would mark his debut as the guide to all the unfolding events.

However, he then discovered Dimbleby, then 76yearsold, would retain his role. The former Question Time host would later also front the coverage for both the EU referendum in 2016 and the 2017 general election.

To add insult to injury, Edwards found out at the same time as the wider public he wouldn’t be hosting the programme.

“They put out a press release, I think. Classic BBC,” he remarked.
