England fans are scrambling to get flights to Germany after the Three Lions survived a scare against Switzerland to progress in the Euro 2024 tourament.
The dramatic penalty win for Gareth Southgate’s side means England will face the Netherlands in Dortmund on Wednesday as they seek to secure a place in the final.
Return flights on Tuesday from London Gatwick to Dortmund Airport (DTM) returning on Thursday 11, are currently priced at around £547 with flights provided by British Airways, Whizz Air Malta, and Condor – according to Skyscanner.
However, there don’t appear to be any direct flights at present, with most requiring change overs on both the inbound and outbound journey.
Many of them are “self-transfer” flights, which means you may need to collect and recheck your bags between flights, as well as go through security and passport control again. You may even need to obtain a visa if you’re connecting in a country that requires one.
Some providers may offer protection if your trip is affected by cancellations or delays. The best return package on Wednesday is currently priced at £316 with easyJet, and Eurowings, with flights arriving at 5.15pm.
The cheapest and quickest flight from Manchester Aiport (MAN) on Tuesday is currently £617 with Lufthansa, though there are cheaper options from around £400 if you’re okay with longer transfer times.
The cheapest deal for the faster roundtrips the following day (returning on Thursday) is £319, though you’ll also have to make a lengthy transfer both ways.
Meanwhile, the cheapest flights from Birmingham the following day start from £284, though they include lengthy transfers meaning in many cases you’ll arrive on Wednesday.
A same-day flight (which also includes 2 stops) with carriers Luftansa is priced at £993, which Skyscanner identified as the best route in terms of time and price.
British Airways aren’t doesn’t offer direct flight to Dortmund, though direct round trips to Dusseldorf Airport (DUS) – which is just a 34-mile drive from Dortmund – returning on Thursday currently start at £901.
BA’s cheapest roundtrip the following day (when England play) is £534, though it touches down over an hour after the Three Lions kick off at 8pm local time.
The cheapest return flight to Dusseldorf on Wednesday is scheduled to touch down at 5.45pm, and is currently priced at £534 – though you’d have to get your skates on to make it to the stadium or fanzones as the drive to Dortmund in over an hour.
The earlier flight, which arrives at 1.30 pm is currently priced at £1,063, according to Google.
A round trip with Ryanair from London Stansted to Dortmund returning on Thursday is currently priced at £124.99, with a direct flight costing £54.99, according to the carrier’s website.
Rynair currently has just one flight available, which arrives in Dortmund at 4.25pm, giving you time to join the England fans dotted around the city.
There are also flights the following day that arrive in Dortmund at 8.04am and 1.25 pm the following day at a similar price point.
