Monday’s episode of the BBC soap saw Ben Mitchell (played by Max Bowden) unveil to Jay (Jamie Borthwick) that Lola (Danielle Harold) is engaged to be married to a man named Ewan.
Ben didn’t want Lola and Jay growing closer and so he tried to intervene by dropping the bombshell on EastEnders.
Jay wasn’t happy and stormed out on the pair and Lola was clearly crushed.
But prior to Lola’s return, Jay was getting to know Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) and it looked as though their romance was back on track.
In fact some viewers have even been confused by his seemingly sudden change of heart.
However, next week fans will see Ruby and Jay together again.
Jay isn’t willing to forgive Lola for lying to him and his feelings for Ruby will return when he spends time with her.
He does admit to Ruby that he shared a kiss with Lola but goes on to say he wants them to be together properly.
Jay and Ruby announce their news to their friends although it’s obvious Jay is still hung up on Lola.
His real feelings are clear as he gets annoyed by Lola being in the pub.
Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) makes the situation even more awkward as he persuades Ruby to give Lola a job.
He will do anything to keep his granddaughter and great-granddaughter around.
Ruby agrees to Billy’s suggestion although she is initially not aware of Lola and Jay’s history.
Will tensions rise in Walford if Ruby confronts Lola?
It looks as though Jay just can’t keep his mind off of Lola so his relationship with Ruby could well be doomed.
Last night’s instalment of the soap saw Jay tell Ben it wasn’t the same with Ruby as it was with Lola.
Ben asked: “So what about Ruby?”
To which Jay replied: “Things just don’t feel right with me and Ruby.”
But with Ben determined to come between Jay and Lola, they may never get to be together.
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
