E.ON seeks 1,000 homeowners to join scheme for free home energy upgrades – do you qualify?

Energy and solutions provider E.ON is searching for 1,000 participants from across the East and West Midlands to join a new scheme for free home energy upgrades.

The ‘Homes for Net Zero’ research project, offers people the chance to learn more about their home energy use and additionally, the chance to obtain free, tailored energy solutions for their homes.

As part of this newly launched research programme, eligible participants will be given tado° temperature sensors, plus voucher incentives as a token of appreciation for participating.

Selected participants may also receive one or more of the following energy-saving solutions, such as smart thermostats, heat meters, air quality sensors, carbon monoxide alarms, loft insulation and draught proofing.

Working with independent research and technology organisation, Energy Systems Catapult, which runs the Living Lab, a non-governmental organisation, the programme aims to understand energy as it’s being used in ‘real homes’.

The Homes for Net Zero programme is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and aims to learn more about how homeowners can retrofit sustainable solutions into harder-to-heat homes.

Chris Lovatt, chief operating officer of E.ON UK Energy Solutions, said: “The Midlands is at the heart of our business and it’s fantastic that we’ve been selected as the only energy company trusted with this important project.

“‘Homes for Net Zero’ is a great opportunity for people across the region to help with research that will drive real change for future generations.”

Mr Lovatt continued: “At E.ON, we’re helping to make homes smarter and more sustainable as we work towards achieving our net zero target.

“The outcomes of this important research project will help us learn even more about how and where people use energy, which in turn will help us deliver the innovative solutions needed to help transform harder-to-heat properties into those fit for a new energy world.

“As a bonus for those taking part, we’ll be developing roadmaps to make homes more comfortable more affordable to run, and ultimately better for the environment too.”

To take part in the Homes for Net Zero research project, qualifying participants will need to sign up to the Living Lab and join onto the trial.

E.ON is looking for homeowners living in the East or West Midlands, that have the following:

  • A gas combi boiler is preferable
  • A home that has solid walls without insulation
  • Wi-Fi
  • A second-generation SMETS 2 smart meter that has been installed for more than 12 months.

E.ON says it has fitted around 1.4 million energy efficiency measures in more than half a million homes since 2008, providing almost £1billion in lifetime energy savings and warmer homes.
