DWP: People claiming PIP may be able to get £750 'one-off' top up payment

If you are a recipient of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) you should be eligible for some extra cash thanks to a new “special scheme” that will top up your Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits. 690,000 customers across the UK are already pocketing the extra dosh – and you could be next in line.

Those with at least 12 months left on the higher rate mobility part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) can apply to join the Motability Scheme. The scheme is a special initiative that will aid customers to put their benefit towards a car or wheelchair to aid mobility.

For first-time vehicle leasers, there is an additional £750 up for grabs until the end of the year. The one-off Vehicle Payment can either go towards your Advance Payment to the car dealership or as some extra cash for your post-vehicle collection, reports Cambridgeshire Live.

As soon as customers have confirmed their Motability vehicle purchase, the cash will take three days to arrive in bank accounts. If you would prefer to receive the money in cheque form, it could take up to a month to arrive.

As you’re only entitled to one full payment, you won’t be able to claim the money again with your next lease if you have already received £750 on your new Motability car. If you only received £250 in the last two years, you will receive the remaining £500.

This scheme was introduced by the Motability Scheme after 2022 saw higher-than-expected profits. The DWP was keen to make sure the extra cash went straight back to the consumer, hence the new initiative.

The DWP announced a number of changes to the benefit amid the cost of living crisis, expected to come into place before the end of 2024, reports Cambridgeshire Live.

Some of these are already in effect, such as free childcare, which came into force at the beginning of September. Thousands of eligible working parents can now access 15 hours government-funded early education for children aged nine months old and older.

Those who are eligible should have already received their code and information about their childcare place.
