Drivers have been warned to avoid leaving an angry note on another person’s car this autumn.
For some, car parks can be the ultimate source of frustration, with other road users stealing spaces drivers have patiently waited for or taking up multiple spaces with one vehicle.
However, Majid Ismailazada, Marketing Director and Motoring Expert at the PCO car hire company G&M Direct Hire has warned leaving a strongly-worded note on a vehicle can lead to costly fines.
He advised: “What might seem like a quick way to vent frustration could land drivers in legal trouble, with fines reaching up to £2,000.
“Drivers should think twice before acting in anger, as the consequences can be severe.”
Whilst frustrated motorists may see their note as a reminder for others to be more considerate when parking their vehicle, angry messages to other drivers is now against the law.
Under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, these letters could lead to a Community Protection Notice.
As a result, offending drivers could face a fine of up to £2,000, a severe penalty for an off-hand comment.
Instead of leaving their thoughts in an angry letter, Majid recommended that drivers left frustrated by how others park try to remain polite.
He added: “If you’re frustrated by another driver’s parking, it’s better to remain calm and address the situation politely or contact local authorities if necessary.
This includes drivers approaching others personally if their vehicle is blocked or at risk of being damaged.
