DRIVERS on a major highway were left stunned earlier this week when some $800,000 worth of dimes was left scattered across the road.
Clean-up crews were forced to shut down part of the highway in northwest Texas after a truck carrying the newly minted coins overturned – spilling eight million of them onto the road.

According to WFAA, the incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, happened after the 18-wheeler veered off the road near the town of Alvord, Texas.
It shut down the highway for around 14 hours, with crews seen using vacuums around the crash site to pick up the loose change.
Some were even seen sifting through the dirt to hand-pick the coins.
Street sweepers were also called to the scene to help, along with personnel from the United States Armored Company.
The company is a division of Western Distributing Transportation Corporation, specializing in transporting government cargo.
According to a spokesperson from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver and a passenger were taken to a nearby hospital, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
A trooper at the scene told local media that there were approximately eight million dimes inside the truck, while authorities were able to confirm there were no hazardous materials.
Local residents of Wise County were amazed by the incident.
Sebastian Vasquez, who was driving to work when he witnessed the aftermath of the crash, said: “I saw a truck flipped over. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’
“I almost came out here with a bucket so I could fill it up with some dimes.”
According to the Wise County Messenger, the highway was reopened at around 7:30 p.m.
It is unclear if all $800,000 worth of dimes was accounted for.
This comes as a lucky driver has shared how they won a car on the Price is Right – but didn’t end up driving the vehicle at all.
Instead, they apparently were left to fork out extra cash – but onlookers insist they made the right decision.

The effects of long commutes
Commuting isn’t just bad for your gas mileage – it can also have affects on your physical and emotional wellbeing.
Sitting in the hot sun and traveling at single-digit speeds can be irritating, and a research study by the American Journal of Preventive Medicine determined that those who commuted longer than 20 miles had higher blood pressure and lower cardiorespiratory scores than those who didn’t.
“Those with longer commutes may be more likely to be exposed to heavy traffic resulting in higher stress levels and more time sitting,” the study read.
“Daily commuting represents a source of chronic stress that has been positively correlated with… high blood pressure, self-reported tension, fatigue, and other negative mental or physical health effects.”
Spending more time behind the wheel meant less time at home with loved ones, less time spent with close friends, and therefore, lower self-reported happiness.
Therefore, many drivers reported being more prone to road rage, bad moods, and lower job satisfaction.
