Drivers can now claim chunk of $4 million settlement before July 15 deadline – all you need to do is fill out form

THOUSANDS of delivery drivers are owed a piece of $4 million and they have until July 15 to claim it.

The settlement stems from an investigation in New York, where officials found thousands of workers were denied tips that customers thought they were giving directly.

Drizly, an alcohol delivery service owned by Uber, was accused of misleading both customers and drivers.

From 2018 to 2023, customers using Drizly were urged to tip their drivers at checkout, often with a preset 10% gratuity.

But the tips never went directly to drivers.

Instead, Drizly routed them to store owners, who didn’t always pass them on.

Some stores even pooled tips among all staff, a move that’s illegal under state law when it comes to liquor store employees.

More than 8,300 workers at over 2,400 stores were affected, including hundreds in every borough of New York City.

“Delivery workers deserve every dollar they earn,” said Attorney General Letitia James, who led the investigation.

“This settlement holds Drizly accountable and ensures workers are paid what they’re owed.”

Anyone who delivered alcohol through a Drizly-connected store between January 1, 2018, and August 31, 2023, qualifies for the payout.

Those workers don’t need a lawyer to file the claim.

Eligible drivers can directly visit official settlement website and submit a claim directly.

Notices started going out by mail, email, and text on April 7, but workers who didn’t get one can still file.

“I encourage all eligible workers to submit their claims before the deadline.”

The funds are being distributed by third-party administrator Simpluris, which is also available for questions.

Officials are warning workers not to share personal information with anyone outside Simpluris or the Attorney General’s Office.

As part of the deal, Drizly is also coughing up $200,000 to cover the cost of managing the payout process.

Drizly’s tip practices were exposed in December 2024, following a lengthy investigation by the Attorney General’s Labor Bureau.

The probe revealed Drizly even defaulted to a 10% tip at checkout, boosting the total spent by customers.

But workers saw none of that unless store owners voluntarily passed it along.

The payout is part of the state’s broader campaign against wage theft and abuse of gig economy workers.

James has recently recovered millions in stolen wages from home care agencies, phone retailers, and even pizzerias.

“My office will always take on companies that mislead their customers and workers,” James added.
