A DRIVER has slammed her new car as a “financial mistake” after its engine began “burning oil” as soon as she bought it.
In a post on social media site TikTok, Erin explained she also sold on the vehicle almost immediately following the issues.

Erin’s video, which has been viewed more than 84,000 times, sees her pose in front of her blue 2019 Hyundai Tucson, with the on-screen text claiming it was the “biggest financial mistake of her life”.
The clip, on Erin’s account (@erinbak13), is captioned: “Whatever you do, please don’t buy a Hyundai.”
While she hadn’t initially explained why she was furious with Hyundai, Erin replied to some comments, helping to build a fuller picture.
Following the enormous response to her initial clip, Erin also then posted a follow-up where she explained what had happened to her motor.
She explained problems had begun with her engine before it reached 60,000 miles, saying it began “burning oil”.
If a car starts to burn oil, this could be a sign that the engine is not sealed properly.
A lack of a proper seal allows oil to enter the combustion chamber, which can negatively impact the car’s performance and even damage the engine, according to experts at Cars.com.
Erin said: “I had the car for about six months but it was burning oil at a pretty high rate.
“Every month the oil would just be gone.
“I took it to a dealer and they told me it’s normal for Hyundais to burn oil.”
However, after doing her own research, including looking at Facebook groups dedicated to Hyundai engine failures, she concluded it was not normal for her car to be doing this.
Erin continued: “One day I was driving and the car literally just shut off.
“The car went into ‘limp mode’, which basically means it’s picking up that something’s going wrong with the engine – and to prevent the engine from exploding it goes into this mode.”
After getting her car towed in the “traumatic” experience, she got it repaired and given back to her.
However, almost immediately, the motor apparently broke down again, going into limp mode.
Erin was then told she would have to pay $10,000 to replace the engine as mechanics claimed she had not taken good care of it.
The TikToker says she was left dumbstruck as she had been doing regular maintenance on the motor.
In order to cut her losses, Erin says she traded in her vehicle “before the engine [went] out”.
Woman buys new car and drives it for just 13 days before noticing glaring issue – dealership ‘refuses’ to help
A WOMAN has revealed a glaring issue with her car just days after picking it up – with the dealership refusing to help.
TikTok user Haylee purchased a Hyundai from a local outlet, but noticed the paint began to peel on the vehicle just 13 days after picking it up.
Taking to TikTok, Haylee (@wmjhm1006), showed footage of her car’s paint job peeling in places all across its bodywork.
In the video, which has over 52,000 views, Haylee said: “Imagine purchasing a car from a Hyundai dealership, and within 13 days of purchasing it, the car’s paint starts chipping everywhere.
“Everybody says they have issues with the white paint. I have issues with my red paint. It is literally chipping off in huge bubbles.”
According to Haylee, the paint’s peeling was so bad that she couldn’t take her car through a car wash without losing large chunks of its finish.
Desperate to solve the problem, she revealed in other videos that she’d taken the car to multiple dealerships, as well as to Hyundai.
But no one was interested in helping her.
As it turns out, multiple viewers have suffered the same issue with their Hyundai models.
In the comments section of Haylee’s video, one user wrote: “Paint is just the start. That engine will be even worse.”
There have been a number of recalls as well as individual and class action law suits against Hyundai for engine problems in the past.
In the comments under Erin’s video, many viewers shared their own frustrations with Hyundai engines.
One said: “Yesssssssss. I’ve had mine 2 years now and it’s been nothing but problems.”
Another added: “Me too with my Hyundai accent repairs have costed more than its worth. Never again will I even rent a Hyundai.”
However, some disagreed, saying they hadn’t ever had issues with their motors.
One viewer said: “I got an 06 Hyundai Tucson. Has over 180k and hasn’t had any major issues at all.”
Another commented: “2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Best car I have EVER owned! ZERO issues. LOVE it
A third added: “I’ve had 2 Hyundais for the last 8 years and have been good.
“Unfortunately, any car line will have issues; not a single one is perfect.”
HYUNDAI PAINT PEELING ISSUES
This comes after Hyundai was forced to address a “bubbling” issue on its cars, following thousands of complaints.
Drivers with brand new motors from the manufacturer have seen white paint mysteriously chipping and peeling in large chunks from their cars.
After many demands, the automaker is giving drivers an extended warranty on their vehicles because of the hassle.
One owner of a brand new Hyundai Sonata 2.0T, Armando Toossi, said the paint began peeling off in large pieces after taking his car to get washed in 2016, as reported by CBC News.
Toossi was shocked because he had bought the car that same year.
Although Hyundai Canada has denied that this is a regular occurrence, the automaker has offered an extended warranty for certain models of its vehicles.
