The price will always be right for Drew Carey, even in death.
The comedian, actor and host of “The Price Is Right” says he never wants to retire from the long-running game show — in fact, he actually wants to meet his demise while doing the job.
“I want to die onstage with a microphone in my hand,” he told ET. “I think Bob [Barker] made a mistake by retiring. I’m not gonna make that same mistake. As long as my heart is ticking and they want me to be on the show, I think I’m gonna do ‘The Price is Right.’ I just love it.”
In 2007, the “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” alum succeeded Barker, who hosted the TV staple for 35 years since it began. Barker died in August at the age of 99 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Carey previously told the outlet that his predecessor “was so good at relating to people and getting them to be relaxed and be themselves. You watch his demeanor and his attitude. He never seemed stressed.”
As for “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest — who is now entering the game show landscape with his new gig on “Wheel of Fortune” — Carey said he was a good pick for the job.
“Do I have any advice for billionaire Ryan Seacrest? Who hosts everything all the time? No,” he said with a laugh. “Bro, I think you got it. I think you know what to do. I think you know how to host things. Don’t worry about it. You’re going to be fine.”
Season 42 of “Wheel of Fortune” with Seacrest — whose other hosting credits include “Live with Kelly and Ryan” — is expected to premiere in the fall of 2024.
