Ivanka Trump and her sister Tiffany have broken their silence after father Donald Trump was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In a statement posted to X, formerely Twitter, Ivanka wrote: “Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and for the other victims of today’s senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania. I am grateful to the Secret Service and all the other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today. I continue to pray for our country.”
She added: “I love you Dad, today and always.”
On her own account, Tiffany wrote: “The outpouring of love and support for my dad is deeply appreciated. Thank you God for keeping my father alive. Political violence is never the answer. God bless the secret service and law enforcement who fearlessly intervened. Please include the families of the victims in your prayers.”
“As you saw today, my father is a fighter and he will continue to fight for you and the USA,” she added.
Earlier Saturday, Trump stepped on stage to address a large crowd of his supporters. However, just minutes into his speech, gunfire rang out and the crowd was seeing scattering and running.
In video footage, Trump himself, was seen bloodied but raising a defiant fist in the air before he was whisked away by his Secret Service agents.
Though it was intially unclear whether Trump was shot or if he was injured by shards of broken glass, he later took to Truth Social to confirm his injuries.
“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” he wrote. “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”
He added: “Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
Trump also send his condolences to “the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”
In another statement, though the Secret Service did not release the identity of the shooter, the agency did confirm that the suspect was “neutralized.”
“US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter who is now deceased,” the statement confirmed. “US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated.”
“One spectator was killed, two critically injured. The incident is currently under investigation and the Secret Service has formally notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” the statement concluded.
