Donald Trump blames UK riots on 'self-destructive' net-zero policies in stunning outburst

Donald Trump has said the UK riots that recently swept the UK were a result of the country’s “self-destructive” net zero policies.

Posting on his Truth Social site, Mr Trump was taking aim at his rival in the US election, Vice-President Kamala Harris.

He said: “Net Zero Lunatics are currently destroying the economies of many other countries, including the UK.

“Their radical, self-destructive policy has led the UK to the worst economic growth since 1780, now causing economic chaos, destruction, riots and death in the streets of British cities.”

It is not clear what Mr Trump meant when he said the UK has had its worst economic growth since 1780.

Riots in the UK erupted after three young girls were stabbed and killed at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport last month.

The violence initially started in Southport before spreading to other parts of the UK.

They were carried out by far-right groups, targeting mosques, attacking hotels housing asylum seekers, and destroying property in a number of towns and cities.

Fake news online, suggesting that the Southport suspect was a Muslim and an asylum seeker, whipped up much of the violence.

In his post, Mr Trump added: “Kamala Harris supports the environmental extremists’ ‘NET-ZERO’ energy policy – a radical Left agenda to abolish coal, oil, and natural gas, and plunge MILLIONS into poverty.

“In the United States, net zero fanatics like Kamala Harris want to shut down power plants, even as the cost of energy and electricity is up 30 to 50pc and climbing.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer spoke with former president Trump last month during a 10-minute call.

Sir Keir phoned Mr Trump after he narrowly survived an assassination attempt at an open-air campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania.

The i reported that Trump congratulated Sir Keir on his election victory while the Prime Minister expressed his sympathies following the assassination attempt.
