President Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to accuse the messaging platform of failing to give him and other Republicans a fair shake.
Trump quoted Fox Business Network anchor Maria Bartiromo saying the “best thing ever to happen to Twitter is Donald Trump” as he launched a broadside into the tech giant.
“So true, but they don’t treat me well as a Republican. Very discriminatory, hard for people to sign on. Constantly taking people off list. Big complaints from many people,” the president tweeted to his nearly 60 million followers in one of two postings.
“Different names – over 100 M. But should be much higher than that if Twitter wasn’t playing their political games,” he continued. “No wonder Congress wants to get involved – and they should. Must be more, and fairer, companies to get out the WORD!”
Trump has railed at Twitter before – as well as Facebook and Google – for colluding to censor him and other Republicans.
”We use the word collusion very loosely all the time, and I will tell you there is collusion with respect to that because something has to be going on,” Trump said last month during a news conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro at the White House. “It’s collusive, and it’s very, very fair to say we have to do something about it.”
Rep. Devin Nunes, one of Trump’s staunchest allies in the House, filed at $250 million lawsuit against Twitter last month.
The California Republican claimed two parody accounts on the platform – one claiming to be his mom and the other his cow – were attempts at damaging his credibility as he investigates Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Other Republicans have said Twitter and other platforms often “shadow ban” them by hiding their posts from other users.
Twitter has denied engaging in such practices.
