A Dominican Day Parade reveler was indicted Wednesday for stabbing a 65-year-old man multiple times after the festive summertime event, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced.
On Sun., Aug. 11, around 3:35 p.m., the senior man was in his car at W. 45th St. and Eighth Ave. waiting to pick up his wife from work when Joshua Cantero, 20, allegedly jumped on top of the vehicle and started hopping up and down.
Cantero, who had been at the parade, reportedly was jumping on different cars in the area before he got on the victim’s car.
An argument broke out between the two men, with the victim getting out of his car and telling Cantero to get off of it. The younger man jumped off and came around the car and allegedly lunged at the driver with a knife, slashing him in the face.
The driver tried retreating back into his car but as he was getting back inside of it, Cantero allegedly lunged at him again, stabbing the older man in the hand.
The driver was treated for a cut on his face and received stitches on his hand and fingers. He was eventually taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was in stable condition.
Cantero was collared by police 15 minutes later on W. 45th St. and taken into custody. He was charged with attempted assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
DA Bragg slammed the alleged attack as “reprehensible.”
“As alleged, Joshua Cantero slashed a 65-year-old man multiple times while he was waiting to pick up his wife from work,” Bragg said in a press release. “Assaults on older adults are reprehensible, and those who commit these acts of violence in Manhattan will be held accountable. I hope the victim continues to heal from this assault.”
