There is no better dessert than a rich chocolate cake, especially during the holiday season when more people are indulging in their favourite sweet treats.
Instead of buying a pricy cake from the supermarket, you can make one yourself at home in no time with this simple 10-minute recipe.
Gemma Stafford, a professional chef and founder of Bigger Bolder Baking, has shared that the best way to make a chocolate cake is to ditch the oven and make it in the microwave instead.
She said: “An easy chocolate cake made in the microwave is a hassle-free dessert that provides a moist and fudgy chocolate cake in mere minutes.
“By utilising the microwave, this homemade chocolate cake recipe streamlines the baking process, delivering indulgent results without the need for lengthy preparation or oven baking.”
Method
Grease three silicone cake pans with butter and line the bottom of each one with baking paper.
Sieve the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a medium mixing bowl.
In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until you have a light and fluffy yellow mixture.
Add the eggs to the bowl with the butter mixture and mix well until everything is combined. Then stir in the yoghurt, vanilla extract and cool melted chocolate until you have a smooth mixture.
Use a large spoon to carefully fold the dry flour mixture into the wet butter mixture until you have a cake batter.
Divide the cake batter into the three cake pans and place each one at a time in the microwave.
Microwave each cake layer for around two minutes to two minutes and 20 seconds. Cooking time is based on a 1200-watt microwave but may be different for you depending on your microwave.
The cake will be cooked once it is firm to touch in the middle and can pull away from the sides of the cake pans.
You can also insert a toothpick into the middle of the cake and if it comes out clean then the cake is ready.
To decorate, you can make your own chocolate frosting, use a store-bought frosting or add more melted chocolate to the top of each cake layer.
Your chocolate cake will moist, fudgy and incredibly tasty without having to spend ages baking in the kitchen.
