The Father Ted actor released a statement last week telling Death of Paradise fans he was going to step down from his role as DI Jack Mooney after joining the cast in 2017. He replaced My Family actor Kris Marshall who played Detective Humphrey Goodman for three series. But will Dwayne Myers (played by Danny John-Jules) return to the show to take his place?
Will Dwayne Myers return to replace Jack Mooney?
After helping to solve 62 murders in Saint Marie and having spent seven years on the force, Dwayne left the show at the beginning of the year.
His estranged dad Nelson Myers (Ram John Holder) flew from London to visit Dwayne in a bid to try and build a relationship with his son.
He once again disappeared but while Dwaye was in the process of asking Jack for some time off to try and find his dad, Nelson turned up in a leaky boat.
The idea of getting to know his dad better while sailing the seas was all too tempting, so he left Saint Marie to have an epic father and son adventure.

His former sidekick JP (Tobi Bakare) still talks to Dwayne, so he keeps the team updated whenever he can.
However, there has been no confirmation yet as to who will replace Jack on the show and no news of Dwayne’s return to the beautiful Saint Marie.
Shyko Amos, who plays Ruby in the show, has previously told HELLO! about potentially having a woman in charge.
She said: “I love Ardal, he’s my detective, we have camaraderie [but] anything that is just different, anything that makes the show evolve and change, I mean why not? It would be amazing if that is what they decide, it would be great!”

Announcing his departure, Ardal said: “I’ve spent the last four summers in Guadeloupe playing DI Jack Mooney (solving over 20 murder cases in my time there!)
“It’s been a hugely rewarding and unforgettable experience, working with incredibly talented actors, directors and crew while discovering a magical part of the world.
“However, it’s time to move on and explore other opportunities – preferably nearer the Arctic Circle.

“I’m confident that Death in Paradise will go from strength to strength and viewers will share my enthusiasm for Jack’s successor!”
Either decisions are still being made about his replacement or the BBC is purposefully keeping tight lipped until closer to next series.
We’re just going to have to wait a bit longer to find out.
Death in Paradise is set to return to BBC One in January 2020.
