Lacy, 24, was due in court for negligent homicide just days after taking his own life.
The LSU wide receiver had entered the NFL Draft and was expected to be taken at some point in the later rounds.
However, the shocking reports surfaced on Sunday night that he had died.
LSU’s athletic department released this statement following his death:
“We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”
Lacy has received an outpouring of support from the NFL, with former teammates and others speaking out.
Dak Prescott was among those players who paid tribute to Lacy.
He also used Lacy’s death as a platform to encourage those contemplating suicide to seek help.
“Please!!! Ask 4 Help. It doesn’t have to end that way! It takes all of US!” Prescott captioned a photo on his Instagram Story.
Prescott has been extremely vocal throughout his career about supporting mental health and preventing suicide.
His foundation, Faith Fight Finish, aims to empower individuals, families, and communities to find their strength.
Prescott founded the organization after he lost his brother, Jace, to suicide and underwent his own battle with depression.
According to WBRZ, Lacy was found dead in his car after a police chase.
He was reportedly arguing with a family member on Saturday night and shot a gun into the ground before leaving the area.
